Welcome to Maple Class, in our classroom we love writing, reading and doing all types of maths!

In our class we love writing at every opportunity, reading a wide range of amazing texts and learning about every type of maths you can imagine!

This topic is One World. In our topic we are going to be exploring different cultures, habitats, environments, people and us!

Are we that different to a classroom in South Africa, India or Australia? Do those children have the same opportunities that we have?

In topic we will be looking at the Child Rights Act and exploring what we as children have a right to. In English we are going to be looking at poetry and stories from around the world. In maths we are going to be tackling fractions with ease and investigating time.

This half term is outdoor PE on Mondays and swimming on a Wednesday. Please make sure that you bring your swim wear, towel, goggles and swimming hat for girls in an appropriate bag.

A few reminders:

Reading: Please hear you child read every day as this really does make a great difference to their progress. Please ensure that your child records their reading in their homework diary. In year 3 and 4 we promote independence in their learning and encourage the children to write their progress of reading into their books themselves. Please ensure you sign their books at least once a week. As in the previous half term, 5 reads per week will be recorded in school and children will be rewarded with a book after 5 weeks of 5 reads.

Stay and... This year we are inviting you to come into the classroom on a Wednesday morning and take part in reading, writing and maths activities. This is from 8:50 until 9:15.

Learning Logs
: Please make sure that your child returns their learning log by the correct day. The amended format for the learning logs has been very successful; therefore please always check the plastic wallet in the back for any tips to help your child do the learning log.

The weekly spellings are in the children’s spelling books ready for them to practise and learn. The children have the opportunity to explore the spellings and any relevant rules which may apply to that week’s spellings during the week. Practise at home is a really great way for the children to embed these spellings and rules.

Young Voices is a great event happening this half term on the 26th January at the Genting Arena in Birmingham. This is a great opportunity for the children and we absolutely loved it last year. Get practising your lyrics and dance moves at home! You could even teach them to your grownups!
