Welcome to Willow Class, we are a mix of Year Two and Three children although we are taught in our own year groups for maths and English in the morning.

The Willow class staff this year are Mrs Pickett, Miss Rose, Mrs Mason, Mrs Timmis and Mrs Riches.

In Year Two we are trying really hard to become more independent, this includes changing our own reading books as well as thinking about how we can help ourselves before we ask for help.  We love leaning through a variety of different activities including written, practical and discussions, these help us practise skills we have learnt and listen to everyone’s point of view.  When holding discussions, it helps us to embrace our school values such as compassion, respect and friendship.  Also, within our learning environment  we can practise  how to be a good learner, for example, showing perseverance , making links with our learning and not being afraid to make mistakes.

Children are expected to read five times a week and will have weekly spellings to learn. Learning logs will continue to be sent home and at times other activities may be sent home in order to consolidate or aid your child’s learning.

PE -  this year will be on Tuesday and Thursday, please ensure that children have a PE kit in school all week as at times these days may change or they may be other sports activities that the children are involved in.

Reading – Children are welcome to read books from school or home, reading for pleasure is of high importance and therefore children should read books they enjoy. If they choose a book that is challenging you could share the reading.

English - Developing stamina for writing is key in Year Two, spelling and handwriting are also important, we will be using our cursive handwriting in order to be able to join our handwriting, therefore it is particularly important that children are forming their letters correctly.

Maths - We will build on skills and knowledge we have already acquired as well as learning new ones. In Year Two we are trying really hard to transfer these skills and knowledge to a variety of different situations such as using our number bonds or our doubles.

Thank you for all your support and please come and see us with any questions or concerns you may have.
